Our journey began with a vision to support health initiatives that place people, communities and long-term impact at the centre of development across Africa.
Rooted in the African philosophy of Ubuntu, SHI was founded on the belief that meaningful progress is achieved through collaboration, shared purpose and mutual success. Africa’s rich diversity, resilience and potential continue to shape who we are and how we work.
From the beginning, our focus has been on creating the conditions that enable individuals, institutions and communities to thrive.
As our work expanded across countries, institutions and partnerships, so too did our understanding of what sustainable impact requires.
We learned that lasting change depends not only on technical expertise, but on strong institutions, effective systems and the capacity to translate ambition into action.
Today, SHI has evolved into an African-led implementation platform working alongside governments, regulators, regional institutions and development partners to strengthen institutions, build resilient systems and deliver sustainable results across Africa.
